Addiction is one of the most serious problems we face in society; it ruins the ability for a person to live normally. It is right and rational to seek help from medical professionals in overcoming it. There are a lot of things that will hinder a person to achieve an addiction-free life. This is why recovery treatment and supervision of doctors are needed to guarantee that the treatments are taken seriously and the process of treatment should be followed for better and effective results. The timeline of the recovery is the same in every individual but the treatment being used and the approach differs from one another, it depends on the preference and needs of an individual. It is important that a person understands his/her situation and is aware of what treatment entails in order to fully recover from addiction.

Timeline of Addiction Recovery

The timeline of Addiction Recovery is needed to achieve your desire to have a normal and active substance and alcohol abuse-free life. Keep in mind that the flow of your process differs from the flow of someone else’s process. However, there is typically a formula that is followed in terms of basic stages of recovery. The lists below are the common stages of the recovery process.

Acceptance

The first step of addiction recovery is acceptance, accepting that you have an addiction problem, you need help, and that you can recover. It is the most crucial part of recovery. Many are afraid to admit that they need help and that they can no longer control themselves when it comes to substance abuse.

In relation, people find it shameful to accept that they are addicted to any substance or alcohol abuse. But, once they’ve come to terms with the fact that they have an addiction, they can find peace during recovery.

People who are able to acknowledge the problem are mostly able to do so because they have experienced the worst of the worst. They may have lost jobs, friends, family, relationships, developed health problems, etc. However, admitting the situation is difficult. It is easier to cure the problem when you are ready both mentally and physically.

Medical Detoxification

Undergoing detox removes the toxic chemicals that damaged certain functions in the brain and other parts of the body. A person will experience various withdrawal symptoms throughout the process. Withdrawal symptoms vary from the substance a person used, how long they abused it, how they abused it, and a person’s health.

It is advisable to anyone who undergoes detoxification to have medical supervision by a doctor or nurse because withdrawal symptoms can be fatal and will result in serious complications or even death. It is best to have someone who knows how to deal with withdrawal symptoms assist you throughout the process to prevent severe complications from arising. Detoxification is important for an individual who wishes to eliminate addiction in their lives, and it is a vital step towards recovery.

Inpatient Treatment

The second step in recovery is the inpatient drug rehab. It allows patients to stay in a drug and alcohol-free environment to experience all-around-the-clock care and support to prevent any serious problems, such as relapse, to occur. This helps prevent people from returning to their old habit and prevents them from being tempted to use again.

Patients are exposed to a variety of therapies such as behavioral therapy and psychotherapy, and medicines, and this contributes to the overall success in recovery. It is also recommended having a peaceful and harmonious society to strengthen the will of a person to recover. Usually, Inpatient Treatment lasts for 30, 60 or 90-days upon admission depending on the growth of a person during the sessions.

Inpatient Treatment allows people to experience what it feels like to be monitored every time. You have the luxury to grow and recover with a doctor who is always there to guide you every step of the way, and you will be confident of the outcome of your recovery treatment.

Intensive Outpatient Treatment Timeline

Outpatient Treatment is often given after the Inpatient Treatment. But some patients prefer outpatient treatment without undergoing inpatient treatment because of reasons like work, studies, family and other things which people do on a normal basis.

Patients are required to attend sessions which usually lasts for an hour or two and are obliged to have homework at the end of every session to work on before the next session. This may be an individual or group session, based on the preference of the patient.

  • The individual outpatient session allows patients to experience confidentiality at its finest, and those doctors are focused only on you. Some benefits of inpatient therapy are the individual benefactor and better guidance and confidentiality.
  • Group outpatient sessions are sessions with more than one client. According to a study, outpatient group sessions get a higher success rate compared to an individual outpatient session. This mainly because you are exposed to people who experience similar issues, they are also given the chance to hear a true story of recovery from people who were once addicted to drugs or alcohol.

Outpatient Treatment is an extension for tending to the needs of a patient after being treated in a facility. This is to ensure that the patient receives support outside the facility and to prevent relapse. It is an extension given to a patient to guide them alongside their loved ones while living a normal life and facing the world again without their substance of choice.
