Life Skills and Coaching Classes

Unlike therapy and counseling, which are types of treatment to improve your mental well-being, the coaching process addresses specific personal projects, business successes, general conditions and transitions in the client’s personal life.

Life Coaching examines what’s going on right now in the client’s relationships or profession, discovering what their obstacles or challenges might be, and choosing a course of action to make their life be what they want it to be.

Coaching, is a teaching, training or development process via in which an individual is supported while achieving a specific personal or professional result or goal. Occasionally, the term coaching may be applied to an informal relationship between two individuals where one has greater experience and expertise than the other; offering advice and guidance as the client goes through a learning process. This form of coaching is similar to mentoring. Life coaching draws upon a variety of tools and techniques from other disciplines such as sociology, psychology, positive adult development and career counseling, with an aim towards helping people identify and achieve personal goals. Life Coaching is a designed alliance between coach and client, where the coaching relationship continually gives all the power back to you, the client.

Our coaches use a style in which they ask questions and offer opportunities that will challenge the client to find answers from within him/herself. This facilitates the learner to discover answers and new ways of being, based on their values, preferences and unique perspective.

We believe that you know the answers to every question or challenge you may have in your life, even if those answers appear to be obscured, concealed or hidden inside.

Equine Therapy

At Scottsdale Recovery Center we believe rebuilding a meaningful life with an amplified sense of well-being is the goal of overcoming any addiction.

Equine-assisted therapy helps those in recovery by centering and strengthening their innermost core of self while keeping them strongly tethered to their highest strivings.  This broad range of connection is fostered most distinctly by the horse, a very grounded yet spiritual being.  The horse’s intuitive sense recognizes self-defeating  patterns and mirrors these energies back to the client, which are interpreted by a skilled equine specialist and psychologist.  The lack of filter between horse and client increases personal awareness and promotes accountability and trust.

Furthering the results and gains from the open pasture to real life is a necessary aspect of equine-assisted therapy.  Treatment facilities have long recognized the importance of transitioning from the safety of a recovery setting to the real world. Equine-assisted therapy supports this transition by introducing uncontrolled variables and teaching effective self-control measures which regulate affect and increase mindfulness.  Better decisions and less impulse dyscontrol are direct results of these equine encounters.

Relationships are strengthened and their higher qualities emerge which herald deeply meaningful, sustainable soul.

In collaboration with Dark Star Yoga, a yoga studio owned by the SRC’s owner, Chris Cohn, Scottsdale Recovery Center’s clients are able to practice yoga privately and comfortably, guided by our own professional, certified and highly experienced recovery based yoga instructors. All yoga classes are private to SRC.

Yoga and the 12 Steps Program work hand-in-hand to take you on a journey with the same destination, which is to live a good life and aspire to something greater than one’s self.

As stated in “Yoga for Wellness” by Gary Kraftsow, we are each born with certain genetically predetermined characteristics that influence our health, however we have an opportunity through changing our actions to effect great changes in our degree of wellness. He goes on to explain that this process of change begins with discipline of the body, breath and mind, known in Yoga tradition as asana practice.

It is with this beautiful practice that a means of self-awareness is discovered, which is essential for self-transformation.

Jordan Denae Macbeth Having dealt with anxiety and depression personally, Yoga has been my saving grace. I’ve learned to use the wisdom of my body, gain better control over my mind and calm my nerves and emotions. Yoga has brought me so much awareness and clarity of my body and mind and the link between the two. It has helped me to remember that creating this life is up to ME. We can’t control life but we can Look inward, Stop placing blame on outside sources, Begin to take our power and responsibility back, Focus on growth & improvement, and Practice acceptance of who we are. I am a Yoga instructor, Reiki Practitioner and Cosmic Consultant. I began my Yoga practice in 2002 and in 2009 completed my 200hr certification at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, AZ, received my YogaWorks certification in 2012 and in 2013, I became one of only 2 certified Naam Yoga Therapists in the state of Arizona. A newer practice on the West Coast, Naam is a Meditative practice that uses the powerful healing of breath {pranayama}, basic movement {asana}, chanting {mantra} and rhythmic movement to heal and balance the body and mind.
